Friendly Advice

Have I mentioned I love puns? Haha. This topic has been on my mind quite a bit lately. It may have taken twenty years, but I recently learned an important fact about friendships: there are two very different types.

CONDITIONAL FRIENDS: Beware of these friendships, they're pretty dangerous. They can be your friend to your face, but not behind your back. Friends like these generally don't have your best interest in mind and are only out to gain something from the friendship. These friends are fun to party or hang out with, you just might not want to tell them your deepest, darkest secrets. They are their first, and only, priority.

UNCONDITIONAL FRIENDS: I will never be able to express my appreciation for unconditional friendships. People who have loved me through thick and thin have made me who I am today. These friends are those that aren't afraid to tell you that you're being stupid when you're making an idiotic decision, but will be there to pick up the pieces when the decision falls through. These friends will forever have your back and are one person through and through. Friends like this will give you the shirt off your back. These people emulate Christ's love, and it radiates from them.

I have been extremely blessed to be able to have many unconditional friends, but I'm realizing that conditional friends are becoming more frequent in my life. While I was evaluating all of my relationships, I began to wonder what kind of friend I was. Do I respect them? Do I love them even when they're doing something I don't agree with? I know I'm not perfect, so I'm sorry for those I have wronged, but my pledge to you is this: I WILL BE A BETTER FRIEND. Re-evaluate your relationships, you may be surprised at what you find. Are you the friend you hope to have?

Peace & Love.
